Aqua Park at Cochin

KOCHI:Sept 22,2006

With the objective of promoting ornamental fish production and trade, the state government will be starting an 'Aqua Park' at Kadungallur near Cochin on 10 acres, fisheries minister, S Sarma, said .

Speaking to reporters at Kadungallur, he said the cost of the park in the first phase was estimated at Rs thirty million. Infrastructure would be made available at the park for the production and export of ornamental fish, he said.

Satellite and Homested Farms will be started in select villages at Acqua Park for production of ornamental fish, which will then be exported from there, he said.

Under the project about 2000 people would get direct employment and another 5000 would also be benefited indirectly. There is huge potential for ornamental fish production in Kerala, he said, adding that the government hoped that setting up of the aqua park would pave the way for increased production and export of the ornamental fish.
